Our Pricing and Transparency - Applying for the grant, collecting and distributing the assets
The Solicitors Regulation Authority published new rules that make it mandatory for all regulated firms of solicitors to publish information on the prices they charge. In order to comply with these rules, we set out in this section the minimum price we charge and service we provide. We would like to be clear about these so as to avoid any misunderstandings.
We would like to ensure that our clients have as much as possible information to help them make an informed choice before they instruct us to act. It is important for us that our clients understand as soon as possible what legal costs and disbursements they may have to pay for our legal services.
We charge a percentage of the gross value of the estate with a minimum fee of £1,950 (plus VAT at the rate of 20%). Once we are able to estimate the value of the estate, we will able to tell you the exact amount we charge and any other costs that you may incur.
The exact cost will depend on the individual circumstances of the matter. For example, if there is one beneficiary and no property, our costs will be at the lower end of the range. If there are multiple beneficiaries, a property and multiple bank accounts, costs will be at the higher end.
We usually charge a fixed price but in the event that you require additional work, our hourly rate is £195 (plus VAT at the rate of 20%).
Michael will handle the full process for you. This quote is an example for estates where:

How long will this take - on average, estates that fall within this range are dealt with within two to three months. Typically, obtaining the grant of probate takes 8 to 12 weeks. Collecting assets then follows, which can take between 5 and 10 weeks. Once this has been done, we can distribute the assets, which normally takes 1 to 2 weeks.
